Plan Your trip to Luang Namtha Province

Luang Namtha town is on a loop road (R3A) that detours off the main highway (Route 3) from Houay Xai and from Udomxai.
– There is an airport with flights daily from Vientiane via Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway.
– Buses run regularly from all towns nearby and from Luang Prabang and Vientiane. The bus station is on Route 3, locate 10 km from the town center. A smaller bus station near the town services  to Muang Sing, Muanglong, Viengphoukha, Nalae.
– The High Speed Train from Vientiane – Luang Namtha is available for your journey, please check the schedule in train station or ticket agency. This takes around 3-4 hours to arrive at Natuey Train Station, then take taxi to Luang Namtha Province for 30 munites. Buy ticket at Vientiane Center (Vientiane Capital), or buy directly at train station.

Visas

To enter Laos, visitors need a passport with at least six months validity. Thirty-day visas are available from Lao embassies and consulates abroad. The fee varies by nationality. If you are arriving at Bokeo and Luang Namtha provinces from Thailand, 30-day visas are obtainable at the immigration checkpoint at Houay Xai in Bokeo (Laos-Thailand Border), and likewise from China, at the Boten International Checkpoint (Laos-China Border). Tourists are called to pay a 15,ooo kip fee is added for “National Tourism Found”, not including visa fee, excepts only person who are diplomatics, businessmen, and monks, more detail the authorities at International Checkpoint will give more recommendation. Visa extensions are available at immigration offices in Luang Prabang and Vientiane Capitals.  Those overstaying their visa are fined US$10 per day.
